Undecided is a 10-minute short film about three women’s perspectives on motherhood colliding in a workplace bathroom while one waits to discover whether she is pregnant.

Once upon a time I had an idea for a short film about motherhood and reproductive rights, but never wrote it. In the beginning of 2019, because of the current political climate, I felt compelled to finally tell the story. It turns out there was another reason I felt compelled to finish it…I was pregnant. So while I was writing a script about one woman’s struggle to decide if she wants to become a mother when faced with the possibility of being pregnant, I was also making that very personal decision for myself. Art was truly imitating life.

Reproductive rights are being threatened every day. More and more states are limiting, or eliminating all together, safe and legal access to abortion. It’s crucial now more than ever to tell stories about people having the right to choose what happens to their bodies. I’m fortunate to live in a state where the laws over my reproductive rights are still on my side and to have a partner who respects my right to choose what happens to my body. Many people in this country live in areas where that is no longer the case and are not given basic autonomy in order to make the right choices for them. More stories about reproductive rights need to be told and we have to support each other to protect our individual freedoms.

Undecided was filmed over Labor Day weekend in 2019 and it had a successful film festival run.

This film uses the story of cis-gender women navigating these choices to remind us that giving birth, accessing safe abortion care, and body autonomy are rights that need to be carefully protected. The choices around parenthood should belong to everyone regardless of a person’s gender and sexual identities.

Supporting this film supports the fight for reproductive freedom for all.
